Welcome to the Adult Keelboat sailing program at PCYC. Be ready to enjoy the rush of water and the feel of the wind in the sails. There's a completely different world out there to challenge and enjoy.
Please check your registration for dates of your course. Weekends run 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Weekdays are 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
When you arrive at the club, press the buzzer on the gate post and let them know you are coming for the Learn To Sail program. As you enter, look to the right, you will see the small sailboats (dinghies). Your instructor will meet you in the covered area nearby. The parking area is on your left.
Most of the time we will be out on the lake learning sailing skills. You will have a safety briefing on board, and wear personal flotation devices. We have PFDs available. You can use your own PFD, preferably equipped with a whistle.
Weather: While the course is usually completed in moderate conditions, be prepared for rain or shine, and dress accordingly. When the wind blows, the temperature on the lake is often 10 degrees cooler. It is best to be prepared with extra layers, and extra dry clothing.
Bring water, sunblock, sunglasses and a hat. There is plenty of room aboard to store all your gear. On weekend courses, bring lunch, so we can remain on the lake longer.
We have 2 different programs, please verify you are checking information for the correct one.
START KEELBOAT SAILING
This is one of the entry level Standards in the series of Sail Canada Standards on sailing keelboats and is recommended for those with little boating or sailing experience that want to experience sailing on a keelboat and begin to build basic sailing skills in a relaxed environment and at a comfortable pace. Use this link or the menu for more details about Start Keelboat Sailing.
BASIC CRUISING
Individuals with minimal practical on water experience should consider completing the Start Keelboat Sailing Standard (see above) before attempting this training level.
Basic Cruising is one of the entry level Standards. It develops the student’s ability to take command of and operate (with assistance of competent crew) an auxiliary powered sailing vessel, by day, in light to moderate conditions. Completing this course is proof of competency, allowing you to legaly operate a power or sail vessel. Use this link or the menu for more details about Basic Cruising.
